The gold standard for SFTP on the desktop.
ExpanDrive is the gold standard for mapping SFTP as a network drive on Mac and Windows. It makes the contents of any SSH server available through Finder, Explorer, and every other app on your system. Linux too. Password, key, or ssh-agent auth — all of it.
— What you get
Every SSH server, as a drive letter.
Any OpenSSH-compatible server.
If it accepts an SSH connection, ExpanDrive can mount it. Linux servers, BSD boxes, NAS appliances, managed file transfer endpoints, embedded systems with sshd installed — all the same connection setup.
Three auth methods.
Password authentication (with MFA prompt at connect time), SSH key authentication (OpenSSH format), or SSH agent authentication via Pageant on Windows and ssh-agent on Mac and Linux. Pick what your environment uses.
Every app on the system.
Mounted SFTP volumes work with Photoshop, Office, Visual Studio, Terminal — anything that opens files. Drag-and-drop into a Word document from a remote server. Run a build command against a remote source tree. Edit a config file in vim from the GUI.
— Power features
Built for the way SSH actually gets used.
SSH agent integration.
Pageant on Windows, ssh-agent on Mac and Linux. Use the same keys ExpanDrive does that ssh, scp, and rsync do — no separate keychain to manage, no passphrase re-entry across sessions, no key duplication.
Remote path scoping.
Mount the full server, or scope the mount to /home/user/project, or anywhere else. Useful for compliance-restricted accounts or for simplifying access to deep paths.
Custom ports and MFA.
Default port 22, custom ports for any environment that doesn't use it. MFA prompts (TOTP, push) are forwarded through the connection flow if the server is configured for keyboard-interactive auth.
— Cross-platform
Same SSH. Three operating systems.
macOS
Apple File Provider extension. SSH-agent integration via the built-in macOS ssh-agent. SFTP volumes appear in Finder and ~/Library/CloudStorage.
Windows
User-selectable drive letter per connection. Pageant integration for SSH agent auth. Signed MSI installer for fleet deployment.
Linux
Native .deb / .rpm packages. SSH-agent integration via the system ssh-agent. SFTP mounts at a standard Linux mount point.
